PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein too large a ratio of ineffective radiation dose also makes the statistical noise too large (statistical noise is proportional to the ratio of ineffective doses) for executing normal measurement of the wall thickness. SOLUTION: The method for measuring wall thickness of steel pipe is employed for keeping effective radiation dose to be maximum to the measuring object, by turning the width directional projection line of the radiation source, until being included in the longitudinal projectional surface of the pipe in correspondence with the outer diameter of the measuring object.
