A flat, circular translucent element (20) with a chamfered inner circumferential edge (24) is glued behind the TFT display (12) of an indicator (10). The inner circumferential edge diverges or refracts the light emitted from the TFT display. The translucent element may also be formed of plexiglass. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling an indicator.
