PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of setting precisely an initial value of an SOC (state of charge), by initializing the SOC while taking not only a temperature change in an external environment of a battery, but also an internal temperature change of the battery before the battery reaches an idling voltage state, into consideration. SOLUTION: This method of estimating the SOC of the battery in the present invention includes a step for storing an SOC estimation table prepared by measuring an internal temperature of the battery accompanied to the lapse of time after switched from a load state to an idling state, and the SOC in every battery voltage, a step for measuring the internal temperature of the battery and the battery voltage, when the initial SOC of the battery is requested to be found, and a step for reading out the SOC corresponding to the internal temperature of the battery and the battery voltage, from the SOC estimation table.
