PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the core of a rotary machine in which magnetic characteristics can be enhanced as compared with those of a conventional core while enhancing positioning precision of steel plates, and to provide its manufacturing process. SOLUTION: In the stator core 10, positioning precision of a steel plate piece 31 is enhanced by linear portions formed in an engaging protrusion 20 and an engaging recess 22. Since the corner 21 of the engaging recess 22 is rounded when the engaging recess 22 is viewed from the laminating direction of steel plates 30, residual strain is reduced in the vicinity (especially, at the corner 21) of the engaging protrusion 20 (the engaging recess 22) as compared with a conventional core (where, a portion of a steel plate is cut along a pair of cutting lines and an engaging protrusion is formed by bending the portion between the cutting lines in chevron) and thereby magnetic saturation can be suppressed at that portion. Consequently, magnetic characteristics (more concretely, iron loss) of a steel plate piece 31 are enhanced as compared with those of a conventional core and temperature rise or deterioration in efficiency of the motor can be prevented.
