<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element having a high photoelectric conversion ratio, a radiation image detector, and a radiation image photographing system. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element 10a comprises a charge generating layer 30a containing an organic compound excited with incident electromagnetic waves to generate charges, a transparent electrode 20 for collecting one carrier, and a counter electrode 40 for collecting the other carrier among the charges generated by the charge generating layer 30a. The organic compound contains a pentasen halide.
