[Class 52(ii)] A chair or the like adjustable into a reclining position has a base or support 312 to which the back 322 and seat 338 are pivoted and links 330, 326 pivoted together at their outer ends and to the back and support respectively at their inner ends, the link 326 having a further link 340 pivoted thereto connecting it with the seat. The back may have a lower extension 352 linked to a leg-rest 362 carried by the seat and the various links are preferably capable of adjustment to vary the angles between the parts. A frictional clamp 350 holds the parts in any desired position and an additional clamp 394 may be provided to secure a link 382 pivoted to the seat against a co-operating surface on the base or support 312. In modified forms of the structure the link 326 may be bent and may be coupled to its fellow on the other side of the chair by means of a transverse bar and the point of pivotal connection with the link 340 may be beyond the pivot 334 which joins the links 330, 326. |
