A device for preventing a theft of a notebook computer using an infrared port is provided to prevent the theft of the notebook computer by watching moving of the notebook computer with real-time measurement of a distance from a surrounding object through the infrared port of the notebook computer and sending an alarm to a receiver of a user when the notebook computer is moved. The infrared port(12) is installed to one side of the notebook computer. An infrared module(14) transceives an infrared signal through the infrared port and determines the moving of the notebook computer according to a level change of the received infrared signal. An RF(Radio Frequency) transmitter(16) generates and transmits an RF signal if the moving of the notebook computer is detected through the infrared module. An RF receiver is separated from the notebook computer and issues an alarm if the RF signal is received from the RF transmitter. A key input part sets up a theft prevention function. The infrared module includes an infrared transmitter(142), an infrared receiver(144), a controller(146), and a storing part(148).
