NON-VOLATILE MEMORY CARD APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR UPDATING MEMORY CAPACITY

A non-volatile memory card device for updating memory capacity information and a method thereof are provided to enable a host device and a final user to understand actual available memory capacity information by calculating and offering memory capacity changed according to generation of bad memory blocks. The non-volatile memory card device includes a non-volatile memory(220), and a controller(210) controlling the non-volatile memory and communicating with the host device. The controller updates the available memory capacity information according to the generation of a bad memory in the non-volatile memory and transmits the updated available memory capacity information to the host device. The non-volatile memory is a NAND flash memory. The updated available memory capacity information is stored a CSD(Card-Specific Data) register in the controller.
