An apparatus for walking exercise is provided to prevent power from being lost and reduce wear of parts due to friction by minimizing the mechanical friction caused by lifting the foothold. An apparatus for walking exercise is composed of a steering part(10) combined with a steering wheel(12) at the lower end of a steering shaft(11) and combined with a steering handle(13) at the upper end; a frame part(20) combined with a driving wheel(21) at both rear sides; and a driving part(30) for rotating the driving wheel. The driving part contains driving sprockets(31a,31b) combined with the driving wheel, a crank shaft(33) rotating the driving sprockets, a foothold(34) whose rear end is hinge-combined at the crank shaft to rotate the crank shaft, and a link(35) whose ends are hinge-combined with the front of the frame part and with the front end of the foothold. The steering shaft is formed with a length control part.
