A drum type washing machine with water pockets is provided to improve the laundry efficiency through the repeated operation of lifting and dropping water by installing plural water pockets at the back of a rotary drum. A drum type washing machine with water pockets comprises: a water tank containing water; a rotary drum(20) rotatably installed in the water tank; and a water lifting device(40) formed with plural water pockets(43) mounted in the rotary direction at a rear surface unit inside the rotary drum so as to lift and drop water. The water pockets are composed of a water inlet(44) formed at an edge; a water discharge outlet(45) formed closer to the center of the rotary drum than the water inlet. The water inlet is formed in the direction where the rotary drum rotates in order to facilitate the intake of water into the water pocket. The width of the water pocket gets wider as going outside from the center of the rotary drum, and the water pocket is formed like a whirl shape which curves in the rotary direction of the rotary drum.
