<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of prolonging lifetime of the battery by preventing deterioration and damage of a separator even if temperature increase of a fuel cell accompanying start and stop of the fuel cell and its process are repeated. <P>SOLUTION: The separator 10 is composed of a manifold which forms a communication hole of a reactive gas and cooling water at the time of lamination, a metal pressed plate 3 which has a gas passage for supplying uniformly the reactive gas supplied from the manifold to the electrochemical reaction face, a resin frame 9 which is laminated together with the metal pressed plate, and a seal material which integrates the resin frame and the metal pressed plate. The distance between a line connecting in lateral direction the passage end on the manifold side and the end face of the resin frame is 0.1 to 1.5 mm.
