A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to enhance driving efficiency of the plasma display device by reducing the initializing time by generating a strong discharge in discharge cells. A rising and falling square waves are supplied to a first electrode(Y) during a reset period. A reference voltage is supplied to a second electrode(Z) during the reset period. A scan pulse is supplied to the first electrode during an address period. A data pulse is supplied to a third electrode(X), so that corresponding cells are selected. During a sustain period, sustain voltages are alternately applied on the first and second electrodes. During the reset period, the rising and falling square waves are applied on the second electrode.
