摘要 An electrolyte is described that represents a new composition of matter. This electrolyte contains alternating electronegative group III-VI elements connected with hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon linkages to form a polyalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl heteroatomic that is used in combination with magnesium ions. These materials can also be combined with magnesium salts or organometallic (metalloorganic) compounds to form a novel electrolyte for use in electrochemical systems, such as batteries. The new electrolytes exhibit magnesium cation diffusion and transport numbers that are equivalent to standard battery electrolytes, such as carbonates. The new electrolytes are nonflammable which represents a substantial advance in the state of the art, especially as it pertains to safety.
