An image discrimination method comprises the step of deriving a featuring quantities on the pattern of each small area of an inquiry image, the step of deciding whether or not the featuring quantity on the pattern of each small area of the inquiry image and/or a reference image, the step of selecting, on the basis of the decision result of the deciding step, the small area of the inquiry image and the reference image to be compared, the step of calculating the similarity between the inquiry image and the reference image for each small area selected as the comparison object, and the step of discriminating whether or not the inquiry image and the reference image can be deemed as the image of the same contents, on the basis of the calculated similarity. |
