A multi-function peripheral device is provided to remove wasteful data processing in the device when a user pushes a color scan start key. A multi-function peripheral device(100) includes a scanner(106), a facsimile transmitter, a color scan start key, a monochrome scan start key, and a facsimile transmission controller. The scanner has a monochrome scanning function and a color scanning function. The facsimile transmitter has only a monochrome facsimile transmission function. The color scan start key instructs the scanner to execute color scanning. The monochrome scan start key instructs the scanner to execute monochrome scanning. The facsimile transmission controller controls the operation of the facsimile transmitter based on a condition previously set between the color scanning function and the monochrome facsimile function when the color scan start key instructs the facsimile transmitter to perform facsimile transmission.
