<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for protecting digital content, and to provide its copyright. <P>SOLUTION: A user receives an encrypted content and an encrypted decryption key that can decrypt the encrypted content. A key is generated, based on system information that indicates system characteristics specific to individual user, and the encrypted content decryption key is decrypted using the key. The decryption for the encrypted content decryption key will be performed, only when a key, which is generated by extracting user system information for the content to be used by the user, is the same as the decryption key for the encrypted content decryption key. If the content decryption key is decrypted, the encrypted content is decrypted by using the decrypted content decryption key.
