<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, which is used for efficiently burning PM (particulate matter) even in a low temperature range of around 240°C and to provide a method for manufacturing the catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas is characterized in that a part of a noble metal particle is embedded in ceria and the ratio of the particle size of ceria to that of the noble metal particle is 20:1 to 3:1. The method for manufacturing the catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas comprises the steps of: attaching an organic molecule around the noble metal particle; dispersing the organic molecule-attached noble metal particle in a solvent to obtain a colloidal solution; enclosing the dispersed colloidal particle of the noble metal particle with a ceria precursor to form a catalyst precursor; and firing the catalyst precursor in an oxidizing atmosphere or comprises the steps of: precipitating the noble metal particle or a combined metal particle of the noble metal particle with a transition metal in a reversed micelle having ≤20 nm liquid droplet particle size; adding a partially oxidizing agent into the reversed micelle; and enclosing the noble metal particle or the combined metal particle with the ceria precursor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
