<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for accurately positioning a FPC (flexible printed wiring board), by shifting the board in the operation of processing the belt shape of the board. <P>SOLUTION: A belt of FPC board of multiple plane is provided with at least two register marks at each processing block. In an operation which requires positioning of the board of FPC having multiple surfaces, a camera (5) detects positioning marks. A positioning hand (1) shifts the board in the direction of X, Y and θ, to place the board at an accurate position. During the positioning, while the tension of the board in the positioning hand is kept, the tension of the board between moving feeders (3) and (4) and the positioning hand is released and the positioning of the board is carried out.
