A method for controlling locking of an external key of a mobile terminal is provided to smoothly perform a user desired function when the key data of an external key is inputted by performing a locking operation. A memory stores lock setting information as to whether a locking operation of an external key is to be executed or not according to each state mode. An external key lock setting unit(121) provides an external key setting window for setting whether to execute the locking operation with respect to a key input of an external key according to a user request by each operation state of a mobile terminal, and stores at least one lock setting information of each lock state mode received through the external key setting window. A key determining unit(123) determines whether key data inputted from an arbitrary key is key data of an external key or not. When the inputted key data is key data of an external key, a lock state mode extracting unit(124) extracts lock set state modes from the memory. A locking controller(125) discriminates whether a current state of a mobile terminal corresponds to one of the extracted lock state modes, and executes a locking operation so that the key data cannot be reflected on the operation of the mobile terminal. |
