A mobile terminal and a character input method are provided to enable a user to quickly and accurately input characters and to effectively input characters due to inputting consonants through a key pad and vowels through voice recognition. An input unit(110) inputs the first formant. A voice recognizing unit(130) inputs the second formant combined with the first formant. A character combining unit(130) combines the first formant and the second formant to generate a character. In this case, the first formant is a Hangul consonant and the second formant is a vowel extracted from a vowel voice of Hangul. A voice characteristic database(141) stores comparison data for extracting the second formant.
