An aluminum nitride powder, characterized in that it has local maximum values in size in respective regions of 3 to 15 mum, 0.5 to 1.5 mum, 0.3 mum or less, and the proportions of particles contained in respective regions are, in vol %, 40 to 70 %, 25 to 40 %, and 0.5 to 20 %, and it has an oxygen amount of 0.5 to 1.5 mass %; and an aluminum nitride sintered product, characterized in that it comprises a sintered compact from a mixture containing the above aluminum nitride powder and a sintering aid, and has a thermal conductivity of 190 W/mÀK or more, and a shrinkage percentage represented by the percentage of (a size of a formed product before sintering - a size of a sintered compact after sintering)/(a size of a formed product before sintering) is 15 % or less. The above aluminum nitride powder and aluminum nitride sintered product allow the production of an aluminum nitride sintered product which exhibits an enhanced thermal conductivity and a reduced shrinkage percentage, in combination. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
