A method for driving a shift register is provided to prevent multiple outputs from being generated at a dummy stage by disabling the dummy stage two times with start pulses, which are output in a blank period of an n-th frame and an output period of an (n+1)-th frame, respectively. A shift register includes n stages(BST1~BSTn) and a dummy stage(BSTn+1). The stages sequentially output scan pulses(Vout1~Voutn+2). The scan pulses, which are outputted from the stages except for the dummy stage, are sequentially supplied to gate lines of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel, so that the gate lines are sequentially scanned. The shift register is embedded in the LCD panel. The dummy stage, which outputs the scan pulse last, is disabled at least one time in a blank period of an n-th frame and an output period of an (n+1)-th frame.
