A run-flat tire of improved load bearing capacity after being punctured has two circumferential sidewalls (14, 16), at least one circumferential intermediate wall (138) interposed between the sidewalls (14, 16), and atransverse base (19) extending from one sidewall (14, 16) to the other and defining a compartment (22, 24) between a sidewall (14, 16) and an adjacent intermediate wall (138) or between two adjacent intermediate walls (138). Each compartment (22, 24) is adapted to assume an expanded symmetrical configuration when an adjacent sidewall (14, 16) or intermediate wall (138) is punctured. A carcass portion is provided within each sidewall (14, 16), each intermediate wall (138) and base (19). A shock absorber is provided in the vicinity of a junction connecting each intermediate wall (138) to the base (19). A padding element is affixed to the inner liner portion applied to the bead wrap of each intermediate wall (138). |
