A transflective liquid crystal display device and a method for operating the same are provided to improve color reproduction performance and reflection brightness in case of operating a reflection mode and improve brightness in case of operating a transmission mode. A red pixel(R), a green pixel(G), a blue pixel(B), and a white pixel(W) form a main pixel. Each pixel has a reflection part(RA) and a transmission part(TA). The white pixel controls a color of the main pixel by controlling offset in a reflection mode. An upper substrate and a lower substrate are opposite to each other. Gate lines(103) and data lines(120) cross with each other vertically. A plurality of thin film transistors(Tr) are formed at cross points of the gate lines and the data lines. A passivation layer is formed on a front of the substrate, covering the thin film transistors. A reflector is formed at the reflection part on the passivation layer. Pixel electrodes are formed on the reflector and the passivation layer, connected with the thin film transistors. Red, green, blue, and white color filter layers are formed on a lower side of the upper substrate opposite to pixel electrodes of the lower substrate at a regular gap, repeatedly in order. Common electrodes are formed under the red, green, blue, and white color filter layers. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the pixel electrodes of the upper and lower substrate, and the common electrodes.
