A portable terminal capable of securing information and a method thereof are provided to maintain the security of information, stored in a portable terminal located at a remote place, and to restrict the use of the portable terminal by transmitting a security setup message to the portable terminal. A system for executing an information security function consists of the first portable terminal and the second portable terminal. The first portable terminal transmits a security setup message in order to prevent the personal information of the second portable terminal from leaking out or to restrict the use of the second portable terminal. The second portable terminal receives the security setup message and activates a privacy protection function or a use-restricting function according to the security setup message. The first portable terminal comprises a radio communication part(31), a memory(34), and a control part(35). The radio communication part(31) transmits a security setup message. The memory(34) stores a program associated with a user authentication procedure to identify the user of the second portable terminal. The control part(35), if the user of the second portable terminal is identified through the user authentication procedure, forms a security setup message according to a security class and transmits the security setup message to the second portable terminal through the radio communication part(31).
