A method for displaying state information in a portable terminal is provided to easily display information, desired by a user, on a display unit even when the portable terminal executes various functions. A method for displaying state information in a portable terminal comprises the following several steps. The portable terminal checks whether a state information outputting request signal is sensed while the portable terminal is executing an application(305,310). In case that the state information outputting request signal is sensed, the portable terminal checks a previously set information outputting type(315). The portable terminal outputs the requested state information according to the state information outputting type(320,325). The state information is information on current date, time, signal receiving sensitivity and remaining amount of a battery.
