An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve the attaching defect during an attaching process of a polarizing plate, by forming an alignment mark for accurately aligning the polarizing plate on the LCD. An LCD(100) comprises an upper substrate(100a), a lower substrate(100b), and an alignment mark(150) formed on the upper substrate or the lower substrate. The alignment mark aligns a polarizing plate (115) with the upper substrate or the lower substrate. The upper substrate is a color filter substrate, in which a color filter layer and a black matrix are formed. The lower substrate is a thin film transistor substrate, in which pixel electrodes and thin film transistors are formed.
