Provided is a cylindrical alkaline battery which is improved in the storage stability for a long time and is inhibited in the leakage of an alkaline electrolyte solution. The cylindrical alkaline battery is such that a cylindrical positive electrode exterior can(1) having a nickel-plated steel sheet accommodates a positive electrode and a negative electrode; a negative electrode terminal and a resin sealant body(6) are mounted on the aperture part of the positive exterior can; and the resin sealant body is tightened by the positive electrode exterior can and the negative electrode terminal so as to seal the aperture part of the positive electrode exterior part, wherein the nickel-plated steel sheet is formed by plating soft nickel on both sides of a steel sheet having a G.S. no of 9-12, and the part of the exterior can where it is folded with the sealant body has a surface roughness of 2 or less.
