PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record video data or audio data corresponding to a plurality of kinds of layout formats without a special setting by a user. SOLUTION: A format detector 52 detects the IMX layout format of video data and audio data in a file for an MXF or a DV layout format, and controls switches 55 and 67. An IMX layout control unit 56 or a DV layout control unit 57 extracts video data and audio data from the file for the MXF, collects them at the units of annual rings, and supplies a memory 58 for video data and the memories 59 to 66 for audio data with the extracted video data and audio data, respectively. A recording control unit 73 multiplexes video data and audio data at the units of the annual rings, and records these multiplexed data on an optical disk 12.
