PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shelf which does not always occupy an upper space of a washing machine does not require large scaled installation work and which enables anyone to easily use when he wants the shelf and even when the lid of the washing machine is opened. SOLUTION: In the simple shelf for the washing machine, the shelf horizontal relative to a floor surface can be made by installing a base having feet 2 with different height or foot at different locations according to the inclination of the upper surface of the washing machine. The simple shelf has the foot formed of a soft resin material such as a vinyl resin which can be expanded and contracted by blowing amount of the air into the same in the whole or part of the foot 2 for responding to any inclination angle. Alternatively laundry can be charged while placing the shelf by forming a hole or a notch in a part of the surface used as the shelf as it is troublesome to charge the laundry when there is the shelf.
