An annular seal(7) is located at the inlet and/or outlet of a product treatment zone, particularly an extrudate cooling bath(1). A threaded ring(5) is used to clamp the seal against a flange(9,14) for holding the seal on the end wall of the bath. The threaded ring(5) is a hand wheel which screws onto an external thread(4) of the flange(14). Seal clamping is effected between an internal annular shoulder(15) of the hand wheel and an end face of the flange. The flange comprises: (a) an outer flange ring(14) fastened to the end face of the cooling bath(1) by a thread engaging with a connecting flange(3); and (b) an inner supporting ring(9). Both threads on the outer flange ring are in the same circumferential plane. End faces of both rings facing the seal(7) are flush with each other. The supporting ring is prevented from rotating relative to the outer flange ring. An inner edge of the flange contacting the seal has a radius over which the free seal edge is deflected by the product when the seal is located at the inlet side of the cooling bath. |
