PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill processor, made compact by efficiently disposing various kinds of components in a limited installation space, and further efficiently collecting the bills. SOLUTION: This bill processor includes: a bill carrying mechanism 7 for carrying the bill inserted from a bill insert opening 3A along the insert direction and also delivering the bill toward a bill push-in area 10 located on the downstream side; a pressing plate 32 provided on one side of a casing 1a to press the bill delivered to the bill push-in area toward the other side; a placing tray 60 provided to stack and accommodate the bills pressed by the pressing plate 32 and to reciprocate along the insert direction; a placing tray driving mechanism for driving the reciprocation of the placing tray; and a shutter mechanism including a shutter 91 driven to open and close with the forward end area of the placing tray projected. The placing tray 60 holds the stacked and accommodated bills with the leading end side exposed when the forward end part is projected from the casing 1a through the shutter.
