PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a person having no chemical expert knowledge to prepare a testing reagent for the purity of oxygen used for investigating the presence of an acidic substance or an alkaline substance in medical oxygen, to dispense with the preparation of the testing reagent at every purity test and to make it unnecessary to require a long time in the preparation of the testing reagent. SOLUTION: A methyl red solution and a bromothymol blue solution are added to pure water to be boiled and cooled to form an intermediate and this intermediate is preserved to obtain a semi-prepared reagent. When the purity test of oxygen is performed, the semi-prepared reagent is divided into three containers A, B and C and one volume of a hydrochloric acid solution is added to the container A while two volumes of the hydrochloric acid aqueous solution is added to the container B and, after oxygen becoming a specimen is quantitatively passed through the solution of the container A, the colors of the solutions of the containers A, B and C are subjected to colorimetry.
