PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a view angle changeable type liquid crystal display device that can control the view angle of a display image between a wide and a narrow view angle and facilitates alignment processing of a substrate internal surface of a liquid crystal element for controlling the view angle and is easy to manufacture. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constituted by arranging a polarizer 20 for controlling the view angle on an external-surface side of an observation-side polarizer 18 of an image display panel 11 equipped with two polarizers 18 and 19 so that the axis of transmission is directed in parallel to the axis of transmission of the polarizer 18, providing electrodes 24 and 25 which face internal surfaces of a pair of substrates 22 and 23 respectively between the observation-side polarizer 18 of the image display panel and the polarizer 20 for view angle control, and aligning liquid crystal molecules of a liquid crystal layer 26 charged between the substrates 22 and 23 in a uniform alignment state. Also, a liquid crystal element 21 for view angle control is arranged, which gives a phase difference of an integral multiple of a 1/2 wavelength to obliquely transmitted light in an inclined direction of a predetermined angle to the normal of the substrate surface when a voltage aligning the liquid crystal molecules obliquely to the normal is applied between the electrodes 24 and 25.
