PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image file management method simply carrying out file management such as classification (sorting), searching or the like without requiring user's labor, and also to provide an apparatus thereof. SOLUTION: A CPU 10 of a personal computer 1 classifies image files obtained from a digital camera into face images, building images, and other images and stores the classified images to classification folders. Face recognition tag information denoting whether the image file is the face image, and building recognition tag information denoting whether the image file is the building image, are added to each image file, and the CPU 10 classifies the image files by referencing the tag information items.
