The chair, and especially an office chair, has a seat (10) which can be set at an angle against the horizontal. The pivot axis (12) of the seat is under the rear half and a ratchet adjustment mechanism (13) is under the front half. The ratchet mechanism is set by a hand wheel (15) at one side, which moves ratchets (17) to engage ratchets with different openings.
