This invention provides a rechargeable battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte that has a high charging capacity and, at the same time, exhibits excellent properties over a long period of time and particularly has excellent discharging capacity retention. The rechargeable battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte comprises a negative electrode and a positive electrode, which can store and release lithium ions, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains at least one of (i) a compound represented by general formula (I) and a saturated cyclic carbonate, (ii) a compound represented by general formula (II), and (iii) a compound represented by general formula (III-1). (I) wherein n is an integer of 3 or more, and m is an integer of 1 or more, provided that the sum of n and m is 5 or more and a part or the whole of the hydrogen atom may be substituted by a fluorine atom, (II) wherein X represents -SO<SUB>2</SUB>- or -SO-, and R<SUP>1</SUP> to R<SUP>6</SUP> each independently represent an unsubstituted alkyl group, or an alkyl group substituted by a halogen atom, and (III-1) wherein A represents an element other than hydrogen, or a group. |
