<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance outlines in an image without degrading image quality. <P>SOLUTION: A gray level reproduction processor 5 sets a target pixel in input image data IS, and inputs pixel values of the target pixel and its peripheral pixels. Then, a dithering process in the target pixel is performed in an outline processor 7 by using threshold values of the peripheral pixels to output outputting values la to an output determining unit 8. In the output determining unit 8, it is judged whether or not the target pixel is an outline pixel which constitutes outlines of an object, based on outline information OL input from an outline extracting unit 4. When the target pixel is the outline pixel, a specific pixel that is a peripheral pixel and exists outside the object is detected by template matching. Further, among the outputted values la from the outline processor 7, only a value corresponding to the specific pixel is selected and is calculated, thus determining the calculated value as the output value LA of the target pixel. On the contrary, when the target pixel is not the outline pixel, an output value SC subjected to the dithering process by a dithering processor 6 is determined as an outputted value LA of the target pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
