<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a large-scale circuit by compensating for the loss of signal light in a semiconductor optical integrated circuit to enable transmission and reception of weak signal light. <P>SOLUTION: The optical integrated circuit comprises a pump light guiding layer 102, a diffraction grating 103 formed between a substrate 101 and the pump light guiding layer 102, a reflecting layer 104 formed on the pump light guiding layer 102, a signal light waveguide layer 105 formed on the reflecting layer 104, a pump laser (light source) 106 formed on the substrate 101, a light emitting element 107, and a light detecting element 108 formed on the signal light waveguide layer 105. Pump light emitted from the pump laser 106 is supplied to the signal light waveguide layer 105 forming an optical waveguide to amplify propagating signal light by Raman scattering. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
