PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system that can preferably correct chromatic aberration as well as various aberrations, can be easily produced and has excellent environmental resistance, and to provide an optical equipment having the optical system. SOLUTION: The optical system exhibits, with respect to an intersection P of the optical axis and pupil paraxial rays, that the maximum of height of the paraxial rays from the optical axis, the rays passing a lens plane in a enlarging side of the point P is larger than the maximum of height of the paraxial rays from the optical axis, the rays passing the lens plane in a reducing side of the point P. The optical system is characterized in that: the system includes a refractive optical element GNL made of a solid material, one or more positive lenses, and one or more negative lenses in the enlarging side of the point P; and an Abbe numberνd(GNL) and partial dispersion ratioθgF(GNL) of the material of the refractive optical element GNL, the refractive powerψ(GNL) of the refractive optical element GNL under the conditions that the light entrance faces of the element GNL are in contact with air, an average partial dispersion ratioθgF(N) of the material of the negative lens, an average Abbe numberυd(P) of the material of the positive lens, and the refractive power of the entire system are appropriately controlled.
