The invention relates to a method for producing a portable electronic object comprising contact pads arranged on a plane and a thickness which differs from the thickness of a standard smartcard. Said method consisting in electrically connecting the object to the data transfer station connectors is characterised in that it consists in delivering a data transfer station (10) comprising an electric probe connector (11) and in submitting the object to the data transfer station in such a way that the contact pads thereof are accessible to the electric probes in a direction perpendicular to the plane. The object obtainable by the inventive method, in particular the UBS key or a PCMCIA card or reader are also disclosed.
