A ball and socket joint has a metal housing (1) with an opening (2) and an inner chamber (9). The greater part of the ball (4) is enclosed by the housing (1). The ball (4) has a neck (3) projecting through the hole (2) in the housing to a shank (5). A plastic bearing surface (6; 6.1, 6.2) is positioned between the ball (4) and one-piece socket housing (1).
