PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner with ease of handling which can reduce the frequency of dust discharging work by preventing the dust accumulated in a dust chamber from soaring and reversing through a spin chamber and advancing into a filter chamber. SOLUTION: In the vacuum cleaner, a bypass path 5 communicating with the filter chamber 3 from the dust collection chamber 2 (dust chamber) built within a dust collection unit 1 is provided at a roughly flat part on the side of the dust collection chamber 2 of the filter chamber 3 or the spin chamber 4. Even when much light and voluminous dust such as cotton is contained in the dust 6 accumulated in the dust collection chamber 2, this can prevent the dust 6 accumulated in the dust collection chamber 2 from soaring and reversing through the spin chamber 4 and advancing into the filter chamber 3. This also enables the compression of the dust 6 accumulated in the dust collection chamber 2 to get more of the dust accumulated, thereby reducing the frequency of discharging the dust 6 and that of the cleaning work of the dust collection unit 1.
