<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device having stable performance and an optical disk device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup device includes a light emitting element for emitting a laser beam, and a polarized beam splitter having characteristics of roughly fully transmitting the polarized light of a first direction and roughly fully reflecting the polarized light of a second direction orthogonal to the first direction and adapted to transmit a part of the laser beam thereby making it incident as an emitted laser beam on an optical disk and to reflect the remaining laser beam thereby making it incident as a monitored laser beam on a light receiving element. The light emitting element and the polarized beam splitter area arranged to include a predetermined angle difference between the polarizing direction of the laser beam made incident on the polarized beam splitter. Thus, by using the polarized beam splitter having stable characteristics to roughly fully transmitting the polarized light of the first direction and to roughly fully reflect the polarized beam of the second direction, the laser beam from the light emitting element is branched into two. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
