<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector, other display devices and a light emitting device achieving the improvement of the image quality of a projected video by performing illumination corresponding to a plurality of areas to be illuminated with a simple illumination system. <P>SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with a liquid crystal panel 61 having an effective area 73 and constituting an optical modulator to modulate illuminating light made incident on the effective area 73; a light emitting device 22 having a plurality of light emitting areas (for example, three light emitting body layers (31a, 31b and 31c)) having nearly similar external shape corresponding to the external shape of a plurality of effective image modulation areas (73a, 73b and 73c) set in the effective area 73 and capable of emitting light and turning off the light; and a critical illumination system setting luminous flux by the light emission of the light emitting device 22 as the illuminating light and making it incident on the effective image modulation areas (73a, 73b and 73c) in the effective area 73 of the liquid crystal panel 61. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
