A method and an apparatus for preventing a child from disappearing are provided to generate alarm sound when the child is out of a protection range by receiving distance and direction information from a transmitter, which is carried by the child. An apparatus for preventing a child from disappearing includes a transmitter(100) and a receiver. The transmitter includes a geomagnetic sensor(130), a CPU(Central Processing Unit,140), and a transmitting unit(110). The geomagnetic sensor detects a moving direction. The CPU receives information from the geomagnetic sensor. The transmitting unit sends the information from the CPU. A power supply(120) supplies power to the transmitter. The receiver receives an instruction from the CPU and drives an LED(Light Emitting Diode). A display driver receives an instruction from the CPU and displays a direction and a distance. A protection range is set. An alarm generator receives an instruction from the CPU and generates the alarm sound.
