A communication device has a source-coding unit and a transport protocol unit. A source coding unit is a unit which compresses an uncompressed data record or datastream (e.g. a datastream of video, audio or text type of media). The transport protocol unit is arranged in such a manner that it can add to the source-coded data in the transport protocol message control information by means of which the processing of the data to be transmitted can be controlled in a communication device receiving the transport protocol message. It may control audio information (volume, pitch, echo, sound effects). The advantage of the invention is that control information is no longer added in the codec itself but below the codec application layer in the transport layer, which provides for very simple updating and changing of control information with out requirement to change the codec itself and thus the source coding unit or decoding unit. The control data is transmitted at TCP/RTCP (Transport Control Protocol/ Real Time TCP) protocol layer level (below the codec), not the application protocol layer level. |
