An image forming device for downloading an uninstalled codec and a download method thereof are provided to implement more efficient direct printing by downloading the uninstalled codec from an external server connected through the network and decoding data received to the image forming device from an external device. A controller(130) requests the codec to the external server through the second interface if the codec for decoding the data received from the external device through the first interface is not present in the image forming device.
