The present invention relates to a novel reactor, a type of Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) for the removal of nitrogen from liquid waste. The SBR systems are extremely flexible systems that secure (via the alternation of different operational phases) the achievement of nitrification, denitrification and sludge settlement in a single tank. The sufficient frequent alternation of aerobic and anoxicoperation conditions, suppresses the development of nitrate-forming bacteria and leads to the effective avoidance of nitrates. The benefits resulting from the application of this operation way include the reduction of the requirements for organic matter during the denitrification, of the aeration requirements as well as the of produced sludge. |
