The method for diagnosing the rapid progression of HIV-infection in the child of the first year of life provides for the analysis of the physical development. The body length, the body mass are measured monthly, the data are entered into the centile charts, the curves body length - age, body mass - age and body mass - age are plotted. The mass - length ratios are compared with the percentile curves in the centile charts. When the features of the delay in the physical development are detected (body length, body mass, and mass -length ratio lower than 10 percentiles) and body length - age or body mass -age curve is delayed with intersection of at least two percentile curves in the centile chart (this delay being stable for at least two measurements made with one-month interval), the rapid progression of HIV-infection in the child is evidentirrespective of the immunosuppression and clinical manifestation of AIDS. Such findings are regarded as the indications for the beginning of antiretroviral therapy.
